The Story

Armed with two guitars and an old suitcase drum, to say this americana duo is greater than the sum of their parts would be a vast understatement. Hailed as one of Alberta’s best kept secrets and known for their dynamic and energetic shows, Winnie Brave is a sonic force to be reckoned with.

This husband and wife team have carved out a family business from their shared love of the game. Drawing inspiration from their extensive travels throughout Canada and the USA, their songs reflect on small town life and the interesting folks who happen to cross their paths.

"Amy's studious, hard-working phrasing, poignant tremolo, and cord-chopping willingness on her Gibson resonate out through the listeners like waves of goosebumps. And, Brad, a bass guy who works the upper reaches of that neck like a lead dude, while thumping and snaring time toe-and-heel like you've never seen. He's real busy and really good at all that. The adoring looks they exchange could be poured on pancakes."

From the beginning...
As the fall of 2012 approached, inspiration for change struck and a decision was made to bet the farm and take a chance on a life less ordinary. The house was sold, jobs were left behind and an old towable trailer became the new way of life. Packing up only the essentials - the dogs, guitars, amplifiers and favourite coffee mugs, Amy and Brad hit the road and travelled over 7000kms in three months.

After returning to Ontario in the late spring of 2013, the duo took to the studio and in a weekend recorded their self-titled debut album. Featuring a collection of songs inspired by their recent journey, it would become the foundation for a new direction.

In 2016 they travelled over 20,000 road miles for 9-months in their 1976 Winnebago (from which they took their name); touring their self-titled debut album throughout Canada and the USA.

During the winter of 2017, the duo hunkered down in an old church-turned-recording studio in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and recorded their sophomore album, Cheap Gin. Upon the release, the duo took to the road once again and toured extensively throughout Canada and the USA.
